For many years, Hotel Olymp Munich supported the non-profit project “Europa Miniköche”—a project that introduced children aged 9 to 12 to the world of gastronomy in a playful way. We are proud to have been part of this initiative, which combined educational value, the joy of cooking, and insights into skilled trades in the hospitality industry.
“Europa Miniköche” has existed for more than 35 years and, over a period of more than 12 years, inspired numerous children in Eching. In monthly workshops, participants learned everything from cooking techniques and nutrition to hands-on gardening in their own “Miniköche garden”. Regionality, seasonality, and environmental protection were always at the forefront.
From the very beginning, our hotel provided staff, premises, and materials to give the children a holistic insight into the hotel industry. Under the guidance of Ms Christiane Jenkins (nutrition specialist) and Mr Christopher Riemensperger (General Manager), the children also experienced visits to bakeries, fisheries, and agricultural businesses to learn the basics of good nutrition first-hand.
The two-year programme was rounded off with a final trip and a festive event at which the Miniköche proudly presented to their families what they had learned.
Although the project is no longer actively run at our hotel, we look back with great gratitude on the many successful years. It was a pleasure for us to support young people, spark their enthusiasm for gastronomy, and contribute to sustainable nutrition and education.
Every year, the Europa Miniköche also took part in the “Einkaufen bei Kerenschein” event. There, they had their own stand where they prepared and sold waffles. Any voluntary increase in the waffle price was donated by us directly to the “Kinder helfen Kindern” initiative. This allowed the children not only to demonstrate their cooking skills, but also to actively do something good and contribute to a charitable cause.
We would like to thank everyone who has accompanied and supported this project over the years—and we look forward to continuing to promote creative, sustainable, and meaningful projects at Hotel Olymp Munich.
